The story of Urlas is primarily the story of Eva and Vašek, who were very close in their youth. After graduating high school, Eva set out to explore the world and fulfill her life’s dreams. To become a ČSA flight attendant and perform her profession with full dedication and love. On her journey to perfect her passion, which had always been exploring and learning foreign languages, she traveled a great deal of the world, met many interesting people and customs, and above all, began to perceive the world differently than most of us. Her friendly nature and thirst for knowledge opened doors for her even where an ordinary traveler would find it difficult to go.
Although Eva’s dream of ČSA didn’t come true, she still flew for a total of fifteen years with EasyJet and British Airways. With her understanding of the world’s laws and the birth of her children, Eva’s worldview and perception of the world also changed. She returned to Earth and dedicated herself to finding harmony between humans and it. She began to study everything related to the soul and body, a healthy lifestyle, and the perception of miracles around us. For several years in the UK, she ran her mini-clinic, where even today she still occasionally visits for a short time to practice Colon Hydrotherapy and Naturopathy. Her great passion is Yoga, which she loved to practice on the beaches of the Caribbean and Florida. She fell in love with exercising outdoors, in the fresh air, surrounded by amazing nature. Later, she couldn’t imagine practicing yoga anywhere but outdoors. At Urlas, she practices every day, in all weather, with amazing views and beautiful nature all around. Occasionally, she slips away to her special spots that always fill her with happiness, comfort, and peace. She exchanged Urlas for London, only she knows why she did it.
Vašek is Eva’s exact opposite. They often joke that he, in fact, never left the district. Not that he didn’t have other options, but he never felt the need. He stayed here voluntarily and happily. He is a true mountain man, loving every little spot in “his” mountains. He started coming here even when he was in his mother’s womb. To a cottage high above Velká Úpa, in Javoří důl, where his family had been coming since autumn 1946.
His grandfather, an incredible lover of skiing and the Krkonoše Mountains, started coming to the empty and ransacked log cabin back then. He would never use a ski lift, always saying that skiers then don’t appreciate every turn and just slack off. Caring for the cottage and the surrounding meadows meant that a lot of time was spent at the cottage. There was always something to do. Maintaining the cottage during difficult times was not easy at all. Everything was carried up from the valley on their backs from the bus stop. Literally everything.
Vašek usually went with his dad, an avid skier and excellent climber. While his classmates at school talked about what they did on the weekend at the ice rink, what TV series was on, or how it was at the swimming pool, Vašek simply didn’t know any of that. He was always in Javořák. At the time, he regretted it, feeling he was missing out on a lot. But over time, as he began to perceive historical contexts and understand why there were stone piles everywhere and paths in the forests that led nowhere, he started to see everything around him completely differently. He often laughs and says he suffers from Stockholm Syndrome. It was clear that he would end up here permanently one day. Javoří důl, with its small cottage, wasn’t ideal for business, so he eventually settled on the opposite bank of the Úpa river in Zadní Výsluní. On the beautiful, sun-drenched slope of Velká Úpa, which, with its well-maintained meadows and grazing cows, reminds him of a small Austria.
For Eva and Vašek, Urlas is home. They love each other and are happy here together. Each of them came here by a different path. Vašek across the river, Eva across the sea. But they are here. Together! And for now, they both believe it’s forever. Vašek knows it for sure…
