I often read or hear comments about how incredibly expensive it is here in our mountains, how our services are subpar, and that we’ve completely lost our way. And I must admit, unfortunately, that’s often true. However, during my time living here, I’ve also come to know many incredibly honest and hardworking neighbors. Most of them have lived here for a very long time, if not their entire lives. They aren’t here to make a quick buck at any cost; they care deeply about the reputation of their beloved home. And it’s these kinds of services that I would like to recommend to you on this page. Please seek them out! Support them! It truly makes a difference, because without your patronage, they won’t be able to stay, and then only the opportunists will remain.
Rapan Groceries
An old mountaineer’s proverb says, “What doesn’t fit in your backpack, you don’t need.” And it’s similar with groceries at Rapan’s – what they don’t have, you don’t need!
Here you’ll find everything you truly need for your stay in Úpa. At very good prices, typical for a local shop, you can buy pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, fruits and vegetables, sweets, snacks, as well as basic toiletries, something to nibble on, a wide selection of alcohol, and much more. Simply everything you truly need. If you have a specific request, many items can always be ordered for the next day. Even a cake, for instance.
And all of this will always be taken care of by the friendly mountain duo, Filip and Eva.
It’s magical to watch how every morning the biggest hero, who got up early, arrives to bring fragrant breakfast and fresh food for the whole day to everyone else at the hut in their backpack. Downstairs, they’ll have a nice chat with Eva and share the first shot of the day with Filip. Immediately, you’ll feel like you’re part of our mountains, and actually, it’s true. You are!
